With Valentine’s Day incoming, we want to discuss one of the main topics of pelvic health physical therapy: Sexual Health. This includes the function of your pelvic floor muscles to assist with arousal, lubrication, erection, ejaculation, and orgasm. Whether you chose to celebrate Valentine’s day or not, or whether you are sexually active or not, the most important thing to know is that sex should not be painful.
Sexual health concerns affect all genders and people. There are many things that can cause pain with intercourse but statistically, lack of lubrication is the most common cause of pain with intercourse, especially if you are recently postpartum and/or breastfeeding. At Be Ready PT we understand it can be difficult and often feel embarrassing to discuss these sensitive topics with a medical provider. We take pride in our confidentiality and discretion when it relates to these topics. If you have questions or feel you need further information about what pelvic health PT includes or how I can help with your sexual health symptoms, email me at colleen@bereadypt.com or call us at (615-617-4942).
